My thematic focus as a venture capitalist at Mercury.
I back gritty entrepreneurs using technology to rethink and disrupt the way society accesses opportunities to build wealth and knowledge. This is what Mercury calls its Power theme, combining my personal passion for empowering forward-thinking founders with my conviction that blockchain and fintech can solve some of society’s most pressing challenges.
As the world grapples with social unrest, a widening wealth gap, and climate change, innovators know that new technology can expand opportunity and reduce our carbon footprint. But it must be applied thoughtfully and harnessed for those purposes.
Under the Power theme, Mercury seeks to fund startups utilizing blockchain and/or fintech innovation to increase corporate transparency and accountability, democratize wealth accumulation vehicles, and enable financial markets to incentivize a cleaner, better world.
Among my specific areas of focus are the tokenization of assets, stable coin maturation and adoption, ESG commodity enablement, and user-focused DeFi offerings.
Technology is a neutral tool: it can be used to build bridges or destroy them, to empower or to control. Mercury aims to fund the bridge builders while transforming blockchain from an industry driven by speculation into one sustained by utility.
